Paving the Way

A historical look at queer culture in Australia

Oral History Podcast

Historical account of queerness, changing attitudes and exploring the others past and present

Paving the Way is a podcast that explores the history of queer culture in Australia. Gender Studies expert, Scott McKinnon, takes us on an oral history experience, unpacking the changing attitudes towards the LGBTQI+ community.

The LGBTQI+ community has been a vibrant part of Australian culture for decades. In particular, Sydney in the 70s marked the significant transition in attitudes towards the Gay and Lesbian community.

However, Australia wasn't always this accepting, there is dark side of pride history to uncover...

“This big social movement happened specifically because of actions that people took to create change...and that’s kind of a powerful story”.
